Dear Friends,
I wrote this piece on Ash Wednesday last year – it’s the most personal thing I’ve ever written publicly, but I hope it makes sense when I say it feels more accurate to say it was written in me. I didn’t set out to write it or have a desire to do so; I just came home from church and wrote.
It feels right to borrow some words from Sirach here:
Though we speak much we cannot reach the end, and the sum of our words is, 'He is the all.' Where shall we find strength to praise him? For he is greater than all his works. Terrible is the Lord and very great, and marvellous is his power. When you praise the Lord, exalt him as much as you can; for he will surpass even that. When you exalt him, put forth all your strength, and do not grow weary, for you cannot praise him enough. Who has seen him and can describe him? Or who can extol him as he is? Many things greater than these lie hidden, for we have seen but few of his works. - Sirach 43:27-32
Read “Ash Wednesday and the Comfort of Death” over at Dappled Things.
May we find Him and praise Him in the unexpected this Lent, and all our lives.

Thank you, Haley! “The wild reality of our own resurrection” - I love this phrase. The Lord has been working on my heart a lot around this in recent years, often in very painful ways. But He is always Good! Not safe, but Good. (To borrow from Lewis).
Thank you for welcoming these beautiful children, Kerri.
I'm sending love and prayers your way this Ash Wednesday!
